Born in Sumter County on Jan. 31, 1946, Elder Lucas was a son of the late Deacon James and Willie Mae Holmes Lucas. He graduated from Ambassador's Bible College and Lincoln High School. He devoted his life to the service of Christ and his family.

He departed this life on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Elder James Lucas, who served as a pastor of Church Of God By Faith churches for 47 years before retiring in 2016, departed this life on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017. He was 71.

He is survived by Alice Ramsey Lucas, his wife and love of his life for 52 years. Additional survivors include their eight children, Sharyn Lucas-Parker (Elder Tony Parker), Lisa (Jimmy) Searson, James Lucas Jr., Abraham Lucas, Brian (Ernestine) Lucas, Alonzo (Jessica) Lucas, Jessica Lucas and Colette Lucas; 10 grandchildren, Brandonn Johnson, Andreana Lucas, Allison Searson, Briana Lucas, Brian Lucas Jr., Phillip Parker, Alyssa Searson, Madison Lucas, Reignah Lucas and a grandchild due in April; a great-grandson, Sir Michael Lucas; and four special children adopted through love, Jy'Quavious Mack, Jada Mack, Samantha Mack and Jaliyah Huggins; his siblings, Elder Holmes Sr., Elder David (Minister Mabelle) Lucas, Robert Lucas, Willie Lucas, Joseph Lucas, Willie Mae (Allen) Cocklin, Shirley Ford, Minister Jacqueline (Apostle Johnny) Henry and Patricia Webster. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, two aunts and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Elder Lucas will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

The homegoing service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Westend Community Church, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter. Officiating clergy will be Church Of God By Faith Presiding Bishop James E. McKnight Jr., Ruling Elder Horace N. Turner Sr., Elder James S. Gibbs Sr. and Bishop Jeffery Johnson.

Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will be receiving friends at 1875 Hatteras Way St., Beach Forest Subdivision, Sumter.
