Elwood Shelley, age 78, beloved husband of 60 years to Mary Sue Booth Shelley, died on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021.

Born in Loris, he was a son of the late L.D. and Elnita Edwards Shelley. Mr. Shelley worked for BL Montague in Charleston and Sumter, and he also worked for Sumter Metals Intersystem of Sumter, Georgetown Steele Plant and the original Cooper River Bridge. He was a family man who loved fishing and boating. His greatest joy was being with his children, wife and grandchildren. Mr. Shelley was best known by his family for his determination, hard work and stubbornness, but most of all for his gentle and loving soul.

In addition to his wife Mary Sue, he is survived by two sons, Russell Shelley and his wife, Tami, of Simpsonville and Mark Shelley and his wife, Bambi, of Sumter; six grandchildren, Laura Siefert, Luke Shelley, Lance Shelley, Ally Shelley, Mollie Shelley and Hannah Shelley; one sister, Estha Gore of Charleston; six great-grandchildren; and special friends, Merle, Freddy, Kim, and Sam.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Bullock Funeral Home.
