Enjoy 3 times the laughs: Country Cool Comedy comes to Sumter

Posted

Country Cool Comedy promises three times the laughs when the trio performs Saturday at the Sumter Opera House. Karen Mills, Trish Suhr and Leanne Morgan each have thriving individual careers in comedy, and together they have been called the "Designing Women of Standup."

All three are from the South and are known for their hilarious, but clean, standup routines. That style grew out of vaudeville and burlesque and has never lost its popularity. Think Minnie Pearl and the humor of Hee-Haw. Jeff Foxworthy and Ron White are current examples of practitioners of country comedy.

Mills, who has been touring the nation for 25 years, is making her second appearance in Sumter. The 5' 2" comedian appears daily on Sirius/XM and recently performed at the Grand Ole Opry's "Opry Goes Pink," joining such Opry stars as Carrie Underwood. And despite her height, Mills played basketball for University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, where she was a first team All-American. UT retired her uniform, and she was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Morgan grew up in Tennessee, lives in the Appalachian Mountains and has signed deals with ABC and Warner Brothers. Like Mills, she can be heard on Sirius/XM Comedy channels. Her recent podcast is titled "Sweaty and Pissed Menopause and More." Known for her storytelling, she has crossed the country with her act, entertaining crowds in performing arts centers. See some of her comedy online on YouTube's Dry Bar Comedy where she explains "Things to Expect When You Get Old."

Kentuckian Trish Suhr has a background in TV and radio and as a spokeswoman for such brands as Pledge, Breathe Right, Bed Bath and Beyond and others. She has also hosted Daily Draw on the Game Show Network and co-hosted Pop Talk on Air with Ross Mathews. You may have seen her on Good Morning America, as a commentator on CMT, E!, Hollywood Today Live and other TV programs.

Seth Reimer, cultural director for the Sumter Opera House, recommends the family friendly Country Cool Comedy show, saying, "If you're ready for a night filled with fun and laughter, this is your show!"

"The trio of comedians has received rave reviews for their shows. The Chattanoogan wrote that Country Cool Comedy is a laugh-out-loud comedy show that leaves you wanting more. Trish Suhr, Leanne Morgan and Karen Mills are all headlining comedians who deliver knockout performances. They'll take you on a ride through all of life's ups and downs, and it will keep you laughing at yourself as you relate to their experiences."
