ERNEST E. HULL

Deacon Ernest E. Hull was born on Sept. 22, 1935, in Slab Fork, West Virginia, a son of the late John and Leona Hull. He departed this life on Sunday, June 9, 2019, in Columbia.

At an early age, his parents saw that he had a deep source of spiritual growth at United Baptist Church in United, West Virginia, and later at First Baptist Church in Slab Fork. He attended Stratton High School in Beckley, West Virginia, where he participated in all sports activities. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served diligently for 20 years.

Ernest met  and married the "love of his life," Clara Jefferson in Baltimore, and he remained committed to for the past 60 years. In 1972, he was ordained as a deacon at Jones Tabernacle Baptist Church in Baltimore under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Arthur E. Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Clara Jefferson Hull; his daughter, Glenda Hull (Bill) Harris of Baltimore; Vincent (Erica) Hull of Columbia; three grandchildren, Milahn Hull of Philadelphia, Spc. (E4) Dametres Lopez of Fort Drum, New York, and Daijah Pinnick of Columbia; a very special daughter/niece, Bridget M. (Mack) Scott of Columbia; 11 sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; six brothers; and two sisters.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Job's Mortuary.

Deacon Hull will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Monday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall St., Sumter, SC 29150 with Pastor Larry C. Weston, eulogist, and the Rev. James Jackson III presiding. Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 2822 September Drive, Sumter, SC 29154.
