ESSIE LEE PRINGLE WHEELER

Essie Lee Pringle Wheeler was born on June 30, 1932, in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late Sammie Lee Benjamin and Clara Pringle Moore. Mrs. Wheeler died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Essie attended the public schools of Lee County. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and began her Christian journey at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Essie was married to the late Willie Wheeler Jr., and this union was blessed with 10 children.

Mrs. Wheeler leaves to cherish her precious memory: two daughters, Georgia Wheeler Bolden and Richard Rohl of Dalzell and Clara Wheeler and Deon Brown of Sumter; six sons, Paul Wheeler, Silas Wheeler and Willie Wheeler, all of Sumter, Deacon Alfred (Minister Angela) Wheeler of Timmonsville, William (Minister Doretha) Wheeler of Mayesville and David (Thomsena) Wheeler of Sumter; two sisters, Carolyn Moore (Sam) Lewis of Sumter and Azalee Evan of Manhattan, New York; 42 grandchildren; 91 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Wheeler was preceded in death by one son, Bennie Lee Wheeler; one daughter, Willie Mae Wheeler; one grandson, Quinten Roshawn Wheeler; one granddaughter, Paula Vanessa Wheeler; one great-great-grandson, Jamien Bolden; one sister, Dorothy Bland of Bronx, New York; and two brothers, Leroy Moore and Clifton Moore of Clarendon County.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Wheeler will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with Pastor Eugene Myers officiating. Interment will follow at Mayesville Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 32 Washington St., Sumter, SC 29150.
