EUGENE SCOTT

Posted

Our fun-loving and one-of-a-kind dad, Eugene Scott, passed away at age 69 on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at his home on Winterberry Road in Sumter.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1951, to the late Henry and Tessie Scott and grew up in Sumter County, where he graduated from Edmunds High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Eloise Lee of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Mae Nell Ingram and Emma Todd, both of Sumter; and a brother, Michael Scott of Sumter.

Dad loved to work on cars and was a great mechanic. He especially loved older American muscle cars and often watched the Mecum auto auction on TV. He had a passion for old westerns and his favorites included "Gunsmoke," "Bonanza" and "Walker, Texas Ranger." His love of Elvis Presley led to an interest in martial arts and, in his younger years, he held a black belt in karate. He loved music and had a great singing voice and will be fondly remembered anytime Elvis or Kenny Rogers play on the radio.

He leaves behind: his daughter, Vanessa Lynn McLeod and husband, Joey; his son, Russell Scott and fiancée, Christie Hooks; his beloved grandchildren, Matthew McLeod and wife, Sabrina, Gracelyn McLeod, Kimberly Scott, Russell Scott Jr., Alexander MccLoud, Cierra MccLoud and Christian Scott; his sister, Louise Geddings; and numerous nephews, nieces, other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, at Wise Drive Church of the Nazarene, 300 N. Wise Drive, Sumter. Flowers may be sent to the church ahead of the service.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
