Eugene Wheeler Machen, age 90, beloved husband of Dortha Anderson Machen, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at his residence.

Born in Hollywood, Alabama, he was a son of the late Thomas Henry and Mary Elizabeth Wheeler Machen. Eugene retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1968 with 20 years of service and later retired from Metropolitan Life in 1988 after 20 years. He was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving in addition to his wife Dortha are three children, Romeo Machen and his wife, Megan, of Sumter, Belinda Crislip Meadows and her husband, Mike, of Milton, Florida, and Melissa Machen Black and her husband, John, of Manning; and three grandchildren, Traci Crislip and her husband, Dustin, Katie Pernotto and her husband, Eric, and Ryan Crislip and his wife, Erica.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be held at 1 p.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.
