Laurice Prince, Wilder Elementary School art teacher, stands beside a display complete with yarn birds created by her students for the Sumter yarnbombing installation. Also seen are creations by Ashley Stancil's class at Chestnut Oaks Middle School.

Nearly 4,000 Sumter School District students, 28 district art teachers from 20 schools and more than 100 adults from the Sumter area participated in the project over the past year.

Many of them will be mounting the installation at the Sumter County Cultural Center on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. The project received a $1,000 matching grant from the Sumter County Cultural Commission to buy the yarn.

The public is invited to go by the center at 135 Haynsworth St. to observe.
