Find art, decor and more at annual Art in the House in Sumter

Find art for yourself or gifts for others at the 12th Annual Art in the House, the fall and holiday arts and crafts market that will feature items made by 17 local artists and crafters. Hosted by Linda Hogon, the four-day sale starts Thursday and continues through Sunday.

Hogon said three new participants will have their work on sale in the house at 10 Park Ave., a 115-year-old Southern home that faces Memorial Park in Sumter's Historic District. The home is also for sale.

There will be a wide variety of handmade items displayed in the house, Hogon said, including "wall and 3-dimensional art, clothing and home goods, as well as seasonal and holiday items."

The three new participants to Art in the House are: Laura Cardello with her Raku and functional pottery; April Christmas and her decorated sugar cookies; and Julie Herlong with her jewelry, d cor and food items.

Returning this year, 11 others who offer various items suitable for Christmas giving or for a gift to yourself. They are:

- Betsy Acken, who will demonstrate spinning and weaving, as well as offer her handspun yarns and woven and knit clothing items;

- Anne Bivens will show her handcrafted jewelry made from silver and precious stones;

- Lynn Bolen will be back with her unique ceramic plates, ornaments, angels, porch and yard art and nativity scenes;

- Mary Bracewell will offer T-shirt quilts, tea towels and repurposed furniture;

- Caroline Cromer has original art, mixed-media paintings and wood block art;

- Beth and Bryan DuRant will again have their copper sculptures, handcrafted knives, jewelry and birdhouses;

- Linda Hogon will have paper pulp bowls, handknit baskets, oyster shell d cor, mug rugs and card table covers;

- Josie Holler and Hogon, known as Pieced by Peace, will again have their liturgical stoles and fiber art creations for pastors and churches;

- Norma Holland returns with home and holiday d cor, birdhouses and yard art repurposed from various materials;

- Teresa Kesterson has fabric baskets, totes, baby gifts and seasonal decor;

- Dave Sessions offers handturned wooden bowls, platters, vases and pens, and hand-carved holiday trees; and

- Lynn Sherrill and Samantha Avant, a mother and daughter working together as Southern Somethings, will offer their wooden signs, charcoal and colored pencil art, and wooden tables.

Art in the House will be open: Thursday, Oct. 17, 2- 6 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 18, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-5 p.m.

There is no charge for admission to Art in the House, but shoppers are encouraged to bring canned goods or other non-perishable foods to be donated to Sumter United Ministries. Free parking is available on nearby streets and in the Memorial Park parking lot.
