MANNING - Firefighters and hazardous material technicians from the Clarendon County and Sumter fire departments responded to a chlorine leak at a farm in the Wilson area of Clarendon County around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office also responded to the area to establish a safe perimeter around the leak.

According to Clarendon County Fire Chief Michael Johnson, the leak originated from a 100-pound chlorine cylinder inside the farmer's pump house. When HAZMAT technicians entered the pump house, they noted that most of the gas has already been released from the cylinder and that a small amount of gas remained inside the container, Johnson added.

"The cylinder was removed from the pump house for safety measures," Johnson said. "There were no hazards to the public and no injuries from the release."

Johnson said that the technicians had the scene under control by 11:10 a.m.
