Phillip Henry has been a valuable player for the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League.

The Manning High School graduate has played 12 of 14 games for the undefeated Rattlers, who received a bye for the first round of the playoffs.

The defensive back out of South Carolina State University made 52 tackles, fifth on the team. He had a season-high 11 stops and a 4-yard interception in a win over San Diego. With that effort, he was an honorable mention selection for the league's defensive player of the week. Henry made 10 tackles in a June 8 win over Tucson.

His four interceptions, including one of 45 yards for a touchdown, tied for third on the team.

The Carolina Cobras of the National Arena League released kicker Nick Belcher. The Lakewood High product converted three of 10 field goal attempts and 28 of 40 extra point tries in six games before his release. He averaged 48.3 yards on 45 kickoffs.

Ronald McGee has transferred from Highland Community College in Kansas to University of Buffalo. The Sumter High alumnus had 32 tackles, two forced fumbles and 1 1/2 quarterback sacks in 10 games as a freshman defensive tackle for Highland, earning honorable mention all-conference recognition.

Baseball

Former Sumter Gamecock Jordan Holladay hit .341 in 12 games for Lexington County of the Coastal Plain League, a summer collegiate wood bat league. The first baseman, who has transferred from the University of South Carolina to North Greenville University, had eight runs batted in and a perfect fielding percentage in 55 chances.

North Greenville's Dawson Price hit .111 with two RBI in 15 games for the Piedmont Pride of the Southern Collegiate League. He played for Sumter.

Men's golf

Sumter native Dalton Ward shot 283 (68-72-73-70) to tie for 43rd in the Canada Life Open on the Mackenzie Tour. The 28-year-old earned $795. Ward missed the cut in his first two June events.

Women's basketball

Previously at Sumter High, Brittany Starling is playing for UNINASSAU Basquete in Brazil. In six games, the center averaged 12.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists. She had 15 points and six rebounds in a June 14 win.
