Former SHS star Croskey earns conference honors

FLORENCE - Francis Marion University point guard Kiara Croskey has been named the Conference Carolinas women's basketball Freshman of the Month for December.

The former Sumter High star was also the conference's pick for the opening month of the season in November.

A native of Sumter, Croskey started all four games in December and averaged 34.2 minutes per game as the Patriots went 4-0. She averaged 7.5 points, 6.0 assists and 5.3 rebounds per contest, while shooting 41.9 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from the free throw stripe. She shared team-high honors with 10 steals over the four games.

Her best game of the month was an 11-point, 9-assist and 8-rebound outing in an overtime road win at Barton College.

Francis Marion's next game will be at home on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 5:30 p.m. against the University of Mount Olive. FMU is among the other teams receiving votes in the latest WBCA Top 25 poll.

Croskey is a product of Sumter High School and is majoring in biology.
