McLeod Health Clarendon accepting applications for Teen Volunteer Program

McLeod Health Clarendon will accept applications for its Teen Volunteer Program for Summer 2022. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with healthcare professionals in areas such as patient registration, rehab services, wound care, medical surgical nursing unit, informatics, women's services and the gift shop. Teen volunteers must be at least 13 years old by March 1, 2022, with at least a B average in school and parental consent. Volunteers will need a letter of recommendation from a school guidance counselor, teacher or pastor and a copy of their most recent report card. Interested teens should pick up an application 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday from the Volunteer Services Department. The City of Sumter will accept applications for its Summer Youth Employment Programs from April 1 through May 6. Students ages 14-15 will work in city government and students age 16 through high school will work in the Co-Op Program for local businesses. Students must live in the city limits and meet income requirements set by HUD. Students should see their school guidance counselors for applications and income guidelines or pick up an application 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday from the Liberty Center, 12 W. The Sumter Coin Club meets from 7 to 8 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at Patriot Park Pavilion. All ages are welcome. Join us to learn more about coins and currency. We have a door prize, raffle and auction at each meeting.

Seniors on the Move Program, offered by Paxville Community Development Corp., is held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday-Wednesday. The program offers a variety of self skill sets including technology skills, elder life skills development, Bingo and other games, health and wellness workshop and Bible study. The Single Parent Institute meets from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Birnie HOPE Center. The Sumter Combat Veterans Group holds weekly peer to peer meetings at 11 a.m. every Tuesday at the South HOPE Center, 1125 S. Lafayette Drive. These meetings are designed for veterans to help other veterans with PTSD, coping skills, claims, benefits, therapeutic counseling sponsored by the Columbia VET Center at 11 a.m. each Tuesday, and one-on-one counseling 9 a.m.-3 p.m. every other Wednesday. The Westside Neighborhood Association meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the Birnie HOPE Center, 210 S. Purdy St.
