COLUMBIA – The Sumter High School varsity baseball team exploded for six runs in both the second and third innings to roll to a 19-6, 5-inning victory over Dreher on Saturday at the DHS field.
Wylie Coker led the Gamecocks, who improved to 4-4 on the season, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and six runs batted in. Bryce Lyons had three hits, scored two runs and had two RBI.
Jackson Hoshour had two hits, and Victor Brown had a double and three RBI. Drake Thames and Kieran Hagerty scored three runs apiece, while Jacob Holladay scored twice and had two RBI.
Coker pitched the first two innings to get the win.
On Friday in Lugoff, Sumter scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 9-8 victory over Lugoff-Elgin.
Lyons led off the Gamecock seventh with a double. Brown sacrificed pinch runner Hagerty to third, and Hagerty scored when Hoshour hit into a fielder’s choice to make it 8-8.
Hoshour stole second and scored on a Sebastian Ducom single.
Thames pitched the final of his five innings to get the win. Thames allowed seven hits while walking two and striking out three.
Sumter had 12 hits led by Ducom and Lyons with three apiece. Ducom also had a dougle with four runs batted in. Trey Yates had two hits, two runs and an RBI, while Holladay had two hits and an RBI.
Hoshour had two RBI and a run, while Brandon Arnold had a hit and two runs.
Sumter improved to 1-2 in Region IV-5A.

CHARLESTON - Bishop England's Danny Brooks and Chase Loggins combined to no-hit Manning High School in a 10-0 victory on Friday at the BE field.
The Monarchs fell to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in Region VII-3A.
Lower Richland 1
Lakewood High School improved to 2-1 in Region IV-4A with a 6-1 victory over Lower Richland on Friday at J. Frank Baker Stadium.
Grayson Ramirez had two goals and one assist to lead the 7-2 Gators. Anthony Huges had one goal and an assist, while Tyler Carrher, Jalen Pearl and Kevin Carson each scored a goal.
Koby Wagner had 11 saves In goal and Ryan Carter had five saves.
Sumter High School improved to 6-4 with a 3-0 victory over Columbia High on Thursday at the SHS field.
Brent Byard, Brian Gamboa and Dyson Roberts each scored a goal for the Gamecocks. Byard, Jehu McCray and Luis Meza-Rueda had an assist apiece.
HIGH SCHOOL TRACK
Wilson Hall wins meet
Wilson Hall won a 10-team varsity/junior varsity meet on Thursday at Spencer Field.
The Barons won with a score of 142.5 points. Thomas Sumter Academy was second with 134, while Faith Christian had 127.
Robert E. Lee Academy finished seventh with 20 points.
Winners for Wilson Hall were Connor Hanson in the varsity triple jump, and Will Singleton in both the JV discus and shot put.
Josh Fugate won the varsity 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs to lead TSA. REL's Jon Russell Branham won the varsity discus.

Keaton Wildes, TJ Hicks and Jackson Campbell each had two hits for the Swampcats. Hicks, Cam Branham and Henry Black had two RBI apiece.
LUGOFF - James Wylie and Connor Batey combined on a 1-hit shutout as Sumter High School defeated Lugoff-Elgin 4-0 on Thursday at the L-E field.
Wylie tossed five innings, allowing the one hit with five strikeouts to get the win. Batey pitched the final two innings for the save.
Batey had two hits, including a double, while Landon Jones and Fischer Ardis had two hits apiece.
JUNIOR VARSITY SOCCER
Sumter High School improved to 3-2-1 with a 5-0 victory over Columbia High on Thursday at the SHS field.
Chris Roberts scored two goals for the Gamecocks, while Jimmy Krivejko, Patrick McKnight and Ben Connor each scored a goal. Miquel Saquic had two assists.
B TEAM BASEBALL
Wilson Hall 3-11
Laurence Manning 2-2
MANNING - Wilson Hall swept a doubleheader from Laurence Manning Academy on Friday, winning the first game 3-2 and the nightcap 11-2 at the LMA field.
In the opener, Cameron Coulter had a double and drove in two runs. Coulter was also the winning pitcher, going five innings and striking out six while allowing two runs.
Clark Kinney worked the final two innings to get the save. Dylan Jones had a hit and scored a run.
In the second game, Coulter had two hits, scored three runs and drove in two runs. Boykin Wilder had two hits and three RBI, and Kinney scored three runs.
Dylan Richardson had two hits and two runs. He was also the winning pitcher, striking out five and allowing two runs in 3-plus innings. Ben Reynolds also worked 3-plus innings to get the save.
