Gamecocks, Tigers, Fire Ants underway

It's the middle of the February, so that means it's time for the start of a very important season in this state: college baseball.

Both South Carolina and Clemson open their seasons today with 3-game home series.

The University of South Carolina Sumter will actually be playing its third weekend of baseball. The Fire Ants have a couple of teams in town to play at Riley Park.

LIBERTY AT USC

The South Carolina Gamecocks will face Liberty in a 3-game series beginning on Friday at Founders Park at 4 p.m.

The other two games will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

On the mound for the for the Gamecocks will be sophomore Carmen Mlodzinski on Friday, freshman Dylan Harley on Saturday and junior Reid Morgan on Sunday.

The Gamecocks are coming off a 37-26 2018 season and will be led by second-year head coach Mark Kingston. The team made it all the way to the Super Regionals last season, but lost the series 2-1 to Arkansas.

Liberty is coming off a 32-26 campaign.

South Alabama at Clemson

Clemson will start its season against South Alabama. Senior Brooks Crawford will get the start for Friday's 3 p.m. game, while freshman Davis Sharpe will be on the bump on Saturday at 3 p.m. and freshman Justin Wrobleski will toe the rubber on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Tigers will be led by head coach Monte Lee, in his third season with the team. Clemson finished 47-16 last season and hosted a regional, but was ousted after losing two games to Vanderbilt.

South Alabama is coming off a 32-25 2018 season.

USC Sumter hosts Wake, Harford

The Fire Ants have started off with a 4-3 record under head coach Tim Medlin.

The team will be back in action on Saturday in a tripleheader at Riley Park. USC Sumter will face Wake Tech Community College at 10 a.m. and Harford Community College at 1 p.m. Wake and Harford will then play at 4 p.m.

Three games will be played on Sunday as well. The Fire Ants will play Harford at 10 a.m. and Wake Tech at 4 p.m. Wake and Harford will meet again at 1 p.m.
