Gary Stanley Herrington, son of the late Norman "Noug" and Louise Dennis Herrington, departed this life on Sunday, June 20, 2021.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1955, in Sumter County. Affectionately known by family and friends as "Stan," he was a man with a kind heart. He would always go out of his way to help when he could. Stan was a jokester with a sense of humor like no other. Stan accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Rembert during his early years. He was recently a member of Grace Cathedral of Sumter. Stan was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Hillcrest High School. After graduation, he served in the United State Army. He was then employed for years at EL Dupont of Camden, Kaydon and Hatfield Heating & Air of Sumter.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 44 years, Dianne W. Herrington of Sumter; two loving daughters, Adrian S. Herrington of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Kimberly S. Herrington of Sumter; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Alberta (Leon) McDow and Malette Dupree; a loving mother-in-law, Lillian S. Reynolds; two nephews, Keyon (Desiree) Stuckey and Tyrell Tindal; two nieces, Deon (Zack) Atkinson and Daesha Dupree; one aunt, Willie Mae Martin of Rembert; one uncle, Leroy Dennis of Rembert; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 425 S. Harvin St., Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Burdell V. Hill officiating.

The procession will leave at 1:20 p.m. from the home.

Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.
