GEORGE KENNETH FLUHARTY

George Kenneth Fluharty, age 70, beloved husband of 19 years to Cheryl Barfield Fluharty, died on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at his residence.

Born in Quantico, Virginia, he was a son of the late Harry Fluharty and Dorothy Parks Fluharty. George received his bachelor's degree from Baltimore University. He was a member of the Kappa Omega fraternity and was named Brother of the Year 1970-1971. George moved to Sumter in 1980 and started his own business, Equity Home Improvements. He loved the outdoors, especially working in his yard. He also enjoyed cooking, entertaining and traveling. He was known to always be happy and positive; George lived life to the fullest. His true joy in life was spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; two stepsons, Jonathon D. Gambrell (Cicily) and Taylor W. Bailey, both of Sumter; one stepdaughter, Kayla Scott (Chris) of Sumter; one brother, Bill Fluharty (Barbara) of Hilton Head Island; three sisters, Helen Ray (Carlton) of Sebring, Florida, JoAnn Rayne (Denny) of Berlin, Maryland, and Sandy Crouch of Easton, Maryland; and two grandchildren, Stella Gambrell and Liam Bailey.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.
