Georgia Mae Thomas, widow of Elliott Ellis Thomas Sr., was born on Jan. 14, 1942, in Sumter County to the late George and Dorothy Merchant Holland. She peacefully departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at Novant Health Care System in Huntersville, North Carolina.

She was a 1959 graduate of Lincoln High School. Georgia was a kind and loving person who was passionate about her family and her church. She accepted Christ at an early age at Bethel UMC and later became a member of Mt. Pisgah AME Church. In January of 1963, she married Elliott Thomas Sr. The two enjoyed 41 years of holy matrimony and reared four children. She was the driving force behind all family-owned businesses and ventures. Georgia Thomas was a shining example of grace and dignity. She loved her God, her church, her community and especially her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Elliott (Jacqueline) Thomas Jr. of Sumter, Erika (Lawrence) Grandberry of Mt. Holly, North Carolina, the Rev. E. Robert (Angela) Thomas of Hartsville and E. George Thomas of Sumter; three special grandchildren, Elliott III, Ahzha (Antonio) Boyd and Lawrence Rashad Grandberry; a brother, Kenneth Holland; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Thomas will be placed in the church at noon on Thursday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Mt. Pisgah AME Church, 217 W. Bartlette St., Sumter, SC 29150 with Pastor Laddie N. Howard, eulogist, and the Rev. Dr. Friendly Gadson officiating.

Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the home, 108 W. Bartlette St., Sumter, SC 29150.
