GLORIA JEAN CARTER SOLOMON

Dr. Gloria Jean Carter Solomon was born on Jan. 14, 1960, in Sumter County, the eighth child born to the late Robert Carter Sr. and Dora Mae Brunson Carter. She departed this life on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019.

Gloria was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School in 1978. She then enrolled at Denmark Technical College in Denmark and graduated in 1981 to become a licensed cosmetologist. She began her cosmetology career at Vera's Beauty Salon on Manning Avenue in Sumter. She walked in faith and, in 1988, established New Era Beauty Salon, where she operated for 31 years. Gloria was adamant about crafting her skills in order to provide excellent services to her clientele.

Gloria joined Saint Mark United Methodist Church in the Salterstown community, where she served in various capacities. Her contributions to the community were plentiful and her light will continue to shine through her legacy. The love she gave every second of every day is a testament to how Christ lived His life. Gloria received an abundance of awards and accomplishments; her most proud achievement was to inspire people.

Gloria leaves a great legacy of memories as well as family and close friends to include her loving husband and soulmate, Roger Solomon of the home; a son, Senior Investigator Derron Solomon of Sumter; two grandchildren, Imani Cunningham and Karter Solomon, both of Sumter; a brother, Robert (Ann) Carter of Sumter; three sisters, Patricia Lancaster of Richmond, Virginia, and Debbie (James) Rembert and Kathy Maple, both of Sumter; three sisters-in-law, Joanne Carter and Ida Solomon, both of Sumter, and Delilah Jeffers Solomon of Tampa, Florida; brothers-in-law, Moise Pack of Pinewood and O'Neal (Dorothy) Solomon of Sumter; an adopted mother, Betty Woods of Sumter; and a host of godchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville, SC 29104 with the Rev. Dr. Daniel T. Hembree, eulogist, and the Rev. Telley L. Gadson officiating. Interment will follow at Unionville AME Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 745 Kingsbury Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
