Teddie Simmons, of Cardington Court, was driving a go cart south on S.C. 763, which is Wedgefield Road, at Alcott Drive when a 2017 Toyota Corolla that was also heading south hit the go cart in the rear, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Master Trooper Brian Lee and Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.
The driver of the Corolla was wearing a seat belt, according to Lee.
Simmons was pronounced dead on scene after the about 10:30 p.m. accident.
Baker said an autopsy will be performed Tuesday at MUSC in Charleston. Simmons’ next of kin has been notified.
