Sumter's Golden Corral is reopening its dining room at 2385 Walmart Boulevard after a temporary pandemic-caused closure.

The restaurant is implementing a new cafeteria-style service model where guests are served by staff on the buffet lines, a design meant to comply with health and safety guidelines, according to a news release. The new hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for lunch and dinner.

Guests can still enjoy endless helpings, but the cafeteria-style service eliminates the need for guests to touch serving utensils. Sumter's location of the chain eatery, which features all-you-can-eat American fare plus salad and dessert bars, is among the first to feature individual entree options for those who want to order from a menu.

"We are bringing back beef tips, chopped steak, ribeye and sirloin steaks as entree options. Customers will also be able to enjoy some of the most popular sides, such as mac and cheese, butter beans, potato casserole and more," said Billy Sewell, president of Platinum Corral, a multi-franchise operator of Golden Corral Buffet-Grill restaurants.

With operations resuming, the restaurant has implemented enhanced measures to ensure the health and well-being of employees, guests and communities, including reinforcing rigorous cleanliness standards for guest touch-points, performing employee temperature checks and incorporating additional hand sanitizing stations. All employees are required to wear masks and gloves, and new social distancing procedures, including floor markers, table spacing and drink delivery, are also in place.
