Manning Juniors game suspended
MANNING - The Manning-Santee Junior team managed to get through 3 1/2 innings of its first-round state playoffs series game against West Florence Green before a severe thunderstorm halted the action in the bottom of the fourth inning with Manning leading 4-1 at Tucker Belangia Diamond.
The suspended game was scheduled to be resumed on Tuesday in Manning with a second game played after it. Those were postponed due to weather.
The teams will try to play on Wednesday with the suspended game set to begin at 6 p.m.
Manning scored twice in the first inning without even recording a base hit. Bryce Acord, Keaton Wildes and Austin Geddings all drew walks in the inning. Acord eventually scored on a wild pitch, and Wildes crossed the plate on a grounder to the right side of the infield by Cameron Branham.
Branham got Manning on the board again in the third inning, roping a single that scored Davis Campbell, giving his team a 3-0 advantage. Mickey Jordan then reached base on an infield single, scoring Geddings and pushing the lead to 4-0. Branham nearly scored on the play as well, but was called out at the plate to end the inning.
West Florence Green threatened in the top of the fourth. It had pushed a run across and had loaded the bases against Post 68 starting pitcher Jackson Campbell with leadoff hitter Brody Cook at the plate with two outs. Manning head coach Mark Campbell elected to bring in Branham to pitch, and he promptly struck out Cook on four pitches to end the threat.
The thunder and rain came shortly thereafter sending the players and crowd scrambling for shelter.
