HALL J. MICKENS

Hall J. Mickens, 78, was called to his heavenly rest on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, New Jersey.

He was born on Jan. 4, 1941, in Sumter County, to the late Tallie and Lillie Mae Wilson Mickens. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and faithfully served his country, until his honorable discharge in 1964. After his military service, he migrated to Newark, where he was united in marriage to Fannie Tucker in 1965. To this union, two daughters were born, Michelle L. Mickens and Keishce L. Mickens, both of South Orange, New Jersey.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife and two daughters; three brothers, Eligah Mickens of Hartville, Samuel Mickens of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Thomas Mickens of Sumter; one sister, Lillie M. Mickens of Maryland; one sister and brother-in-law, Mabel and J.P. Abram of Sumter; two special nephews, Orlando and Jeffery of Sumter; a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 4818 Cotton Acres Road, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Mt. Olive AME Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

The funeral procession will leave at 10:20 a.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Woodrow.
