Sirens wailing through downtown leaving from and arriving at the hospital are a common occurrence, but on Wednesday morning they pulled up to North Main Street instead of passing through.

Downtown businesses and patrons watched as the Sumter Fire Department responded around 10 a.m. to smoke coming from Hamptons.
Danielle Thompson, owner of the fine dining restaurant, said a small fire broke out in a fan above the pizza oven.
Firefighters were on scene within five minutes, she said, and there was no damage.
