MANNING - Harmon Burgess Sprott Jr., 88, husband of Nell DuBose Sprott, died on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at his home.

Born on May 4, 1931, in Walterboro, he was a son of the late Harmon Burgess Sr. and Esther Brown Sprott. He was reared in Summerton. After high school, he attended Wofford College for two years and transferred to USC, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration and an officer's commission in the U.S. Air Force. In 1957, he married Virginia Nell DuBose. He joined Sprott Oil Co. in 1955, but left to become personnel manager of Sunbeam Corp. in Manning for two years. He came back to Sprott Oil Co. and remained until he retired in 2011. He was a member of Manning Rotary Club, where he was past president, past director and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of Manning United Methodist Church, where he loved to sing in the choir and served as past chairman of the administrative board and Sunday school teacher. Mr. Sprott sang with the Puddin' Swamp Singers in Turbeville and said those were some of the greatest times of his life.

He is survived by his wife of Manning; a son, Harmon Burgess Sprott III (Dianne) of Manning; a daughter, Allyson Nell Sprott of Florence; two granddaughters, Hanna Sprott Rivers (John) of Sumter and Sarah DuBose Sprott of Conway; three great-grandchildren, Walker, Harper and Kate Rivers; a sister, Kewpie Sprott of Manning; and many wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Manning United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kem Thomas and the Rev. Dr. James C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gene Failmezger, Jimmy Failmezger, Mike Failmezger, Kyle Stefan, Mitch Gardner and John Rivers.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Manning United Methodist Church and other times at the residence, 609 Craftwoods Court, Manning.

The family would like to thank the caregivers who took care of Mr. Sprott the last several years.
