Harry Amos Jr., 52, departed this earth to join his heavenly father on Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

Harry was born in Sumter on Aug. 11, 1957, to the late Harry and Annie Bell Kendrick Amos. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Hillcrest High School, Class of 1974. He enjoyed woodworking, car collecting and spending time with his family. He began his professional career as a construction worker in Columbia. He advanced to the role of project manager with Carother's Construction. Throughout his career, he received numerous service awards. Harry was an extremely dedicated worker and spent 30-plus years in the construction industry.

It was during this time that Harry met the love of his life and was joined in marriage to Elinor Marie Epps on June 18, 1988. Harry and Elinor have two children, Dale Courtland and Shalawa Aki and a loving pet, Hannah J. He was an outstanding husband and father.

Harry was a devout Christian and lived an exemplary life serving the Lord. He was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age. He enjoyed studying the Bible and listening to the Lord's word. He was always a steadfast servant and left a positive impression on all who crossed his path. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Columbus, Ga., and was an active member of The Brotherhood.

He leaves to cherish and carry on his memory a loving wife, Elinor Marie of Columbus, Ga.; a son, Dale Courtland Epps of Petersburg, Va.; a daughter, Shalawa Aki Amos of Orangeburg; a granddaughter, Nevaeh Epps of Petersburg, Va.; a sister, Carolyn Amos Loggins (Lawrence) of Manning; a mother-in-law, Josephine Epps of Disputana, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Karen Alex of Marietta, Ga., and Tijuana Hill of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a brother-in-law, Kermit Epps III of Disputana; Dana Amos Hill (Kevin) of Sicklerville, N.J.; Herman Kendrick (Ethel) of Silver Spring, Md; a godson, Cedric Wyche of Disputana; Sean Carothers of Taylor, Miss., Ben Logan of Grenada, Miss., and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services and a viewing were held Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 325 Fulton St., Sumter

Interment followed at Hillside Memorial Park.
