Harry L. Herrington, 67, fell asleep in death on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at Providence Health Hospital, Columbia.

Born on Oct. 13, 1951, in Sumter County, Harry was a son of Edna Lee Wilson Herrington and the late Emanuel Herrington. He attended Sumter County public schools and graduated from Eastern High School. He also attended Claflin University in Orangeburg. After college, he started working for Campbell Soup with his father and was employed in various capacities until he retired a few years ago. Harry was not a man of many words, but once he spoke, you understood clearly what he was saying. He loved being with his family and was always there to lend a helping hand. He also assisted with the care of his mother and sister.

Harry leaves to mourn his passing: two sons, Harry Tyrone Herrington of Columbia and Rodney Lionel Herrington of Sumter; six grandchildren, Tyrone Deionte Herrington of Sumter, Essynce Herrington of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ty'Junae R. Herrington, Jhyran James, Iyonna C. Herrington and Lee R. Daves, all of Sumter; his mother, Edna L. Herrington of Columbia; four sisters, Carrie L. Preston (Larry) of Millington, Tennessee, Lillian E. Herrington of Columbia and Jacquelyn D. Herrington, both of Columbia, and Roslyn H. Collins of Lawrenceville, Georgia; a half-brother, Russell L. Williams of Sumter; a half-sister, Flossie Gaile of Hampton, Virginia; one aunt, Rosa B. Smith of Baltimore; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Harry was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel Herrington; two sisters, Essie Mae Herrington and Delores Carnetha Herrington; and a half-sister, Geraldine Lyons.

The family received relatives and friends at the home of his sister, 35 Godbold Court, Columbia.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville. The Rev. Alvin Webb, pastor, served as eulogist.

The remains were placed in the church at 10 a.m.

Burial was at Unionville AME Churchyard Cemetery.
