HARVEY L. WASHINGTON

Harvey L. Washington was born on Aug. 22, 1944, in Sumter, one of six children to the late Ishmael Sr. and Julia Washington. He grew up in a loving family, where God was first in their lives. Harvey joined the United States Army as a young man and served in the Vietnam War, from which he received an honorable discharge in 1971. After his military discharge, he became employed as a brick mason at Johnny Masonry Construction for 28 years. In 1969, Harvey met and married the love of his life, Lillian Washington, to whom he was married for 50 years. From this union, they were blessed with three sons.

Harvey departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Lillian Washington; three sons, Terrance (Kim) Washington, Cory (Trina) Washington and Corwin Washington; five brothers, Johnny (Priscilla) Washington, Ishmael (Shirley) Washington Jr., Jimmy (Sandra) Washington, Perry (Rhonda) Washington and Glen (Betty) Washington; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Taylor; and mother-in-law, Lula Mae Washington.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Washington will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150. Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 25 Rast St., Sumter, SC 29150.
