Letter: Hastie shows leadership and will lead Sumter to success

It is a rare pleasure to write a letter of support for Col. Calvin Hastie. I have known the colonel for more than 25 years and have known his two children well. Cashena and Kenny were distinguished students at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, where I was head for the entire time they were students. I have had the pleasure of knowing the family and working on projects with Calvin and his wife while his children were students. This family was an outstanding example of Christian love, honor and accomplishment.

On several occasions, I was witness to the leadership that Calvin showed in his relationship with the school. He was never the type of person who just let things go to go along. He was always ready to help me with situations where I needed some guidance and advice, and he was there for me.

I have followed his career and that of his children, and this retired Army colonel gets my highest marks. In fact, I am a Marine veteran, and although I did not go into combat, Marines always measured men by who they would go with into a battle. I would welcome this man on my right or left flank, and I would be comfortable with him as my leader. He was a much recognized Airborne Ranger and an instructor at West Point. Your vote for Calvin Hastie is a very sure vote for success.
