MURRELLS INLET - Henry Lucious "Luke" Bramlett Sr., age 88, of Murrells Inlet, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with COVID-19.

Luke was born on April 9, 1932, in Lee County, to Willie S. and Beulah Baker Bramlett. After serving in the United States Air Force, he came back to Lee County, married Elma Mae Boone, built their home and started a family. They had three children, Debbie Bramlett DuRant, Luke Bramlett Jr. and Beverly Bramlett Brinson. Luke had a long, successful career as a dragline and heavy equipment operator. He and Elma also owned and operated a country store on Racoon Road for many years. After Elma died in 1986, Luke moved to Murrells Inlet, where he spent time working at the Garden City Pier, enjoying early morning breakfast with friends at McDonald's and "shopping." He spent lots of time with his special friend, Carolyn Holmes, enjoying each other's families. He built lifelong memories with all of the friends in Garden City and Murrells Inlet who loved and supported him over the years.

He is survived by his children, Dave Bramlett of Kirkland, Washington, Debbie and Beverly, both of Sumter, and Luke Jr. (Marie) of St. Matthews; his grandchildren, Dixie DuRant of Charleston, Delta DuRant Tompkins (Kellen) of Sumter, Michelle Holbrook of Georgia and Jazlyn Haynes of Sumter; as well as one great-grandchild, Vayda Jenkins. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Bramlett Edwards, Doris Milligan and Ellen Tidwell; and one brother, Richard Bramlett. He also has many special nieces and nephews, and Carolyn Painter Shipman, who has spent many years as a part of the Bramlett family.

Luke was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Bramlett; and siblings, Bessie, Bonnie, Billy, Harold, Lee, Robert, Laverne and Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. L.C. Evans officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Debbie, 30 Parker Drive, Sumter.

There will also be a celebration of life at 2 p.m. on Sunday at 2887 Charlotte Drive, Murrells Inlet.

Luke's favorite hobby was making other people's trash his treasure so, in lieu of flowers, please remember him by putting something you consider trash out by the road and enjoy seeing someone come by and pick it up as their treasure.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
