HERBERT DUPREE MCGEE

Herbert Dupree McGee, 87, husband of Betty Ann Purvis McGee, died on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born on July 7, 1931, in Florence County, he was a son of the late Horace Dupree McGee and Eva Shorter McGee. Mr. McGee was a member of Harmony Church. He loved the Lord, his family, his church and talking with anyone. He had a loving and jovial spirit. Mr. McGee served in the U.S. Army and retired from Santee Print Works after 42 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years; two children, Connie M. Brogdon (W.T.) of Sumter and Alan McGee (Monica) of Jupiter, Florida; six grandchildren, Turner Brogdon (Christine), Kendall Brogdon, Preston McGee, Landon McGee, Morgan McGee and Drake McGee; a brother, Cody McGee (Nell) of Sumter; a sister, Betty Willette (Roger) of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorine Sievers, Helen Polito and Marguerite Coward; and a brother, Lewis McGee.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Drew Choate officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Lyles, Brian Eargle, John Tuttle, Bobby Richardson, Rick Ridgill and Robert Galloway.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Welch, C.W. Boykin, Melvin Mixon, Jim Underwood and Bobby DuBose.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Connie and W.T. Brogdon, 4470 U.S. 521 South.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living for all of their care and compassion and to his brother Cody for his faithful dedication.
