HERBERT GLOVER

Posted

Herbert Lee Glover, 91, departed this life on Friday, June 19, 2020, at his residence. He was born on Aug. 15, 1928, in Rembert to the late Theodoshia Glover and Fred Pinckney. He was reared by his grandparents, the late Parris and Esther Glover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Baker Glover; a son, Robert Glover; and four sisters and five brothers.

Mr. Glover was an entrepreneur who owned several businesses while residing in New Jersey and also upon his return to South Carolina. He gave many of the young people in the family their first job and taught them the value of hard work. Among his many business ventures, he was best known as a "master barber" who operated barber shops in Sumter and also in Rembert.

Dad was a member of the Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Rembert, where he served as a member of the Trustee Ministry, Usher Ministry, Senior Choir and Male Chorus. His love for music allowed him to sing with many different gospel groups, including the Singing Cousins featuring the late Mr. Bill Pinckney of the Original Drifters.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his grandchildren, Quadi Glover, Kieyamma Glover and Maryam Glover; three great-granddaughters, Zaire Levell, Zondria Lavell and Zaniyah Levell; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives and friends.
