HERBERT W. ANDERSON JR.
Herbert W. Anderson Jr., 85, husband of the late Laura Mae Nesbitt Anderson, died on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.
Born on Dec. 12, 1934, in Lake City, he was a son of the late Herbert W. Sr. and Meddie Smith Anderson. He was a truck driver and was previously employed by Paul Arpin Trucking and Santee Carriers. Junior had a nickname for everyone. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything. He loved camping, hunting, fishing and, most of all, gathering with family for meals. He always looked forward to Thanksgiving camping trips to the river with his family. He was a very talented diesel truck mechanic. He always spoke in trucker lingo and answered everyone with a "Big 10-4."
Survivors include six children, Herbert William "Billy" Anderson III (Vickie), Judy Ard (Steve), Libby Jordan (Harold) and Wallace Anderson (Beverly), all of Sumter, Douglas Anderson (Tammy) of Wedgefield and Tony Anderson (Lisa) of Manning; 14 grandchildren, David Ard (Noel), Emily Johnson, Rusty Ard (Christine), Charles "Boo" Johnson (Rhonda), Jennifer Ard, B.J. Anderson, Matthew Ard, Allison McMickell, Justin Poole, Breanna Poole, Kayla Poole, Lauren Kirven (C.J.), T.J. Anderson and Paisley Anderson; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Thurman Anderson (Luella) of Kentucky; and a sister, Pat Vause of Timmonsville.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; and siblings, Mae Bell Floyd, Kenneth Anderson, Pearl Ardis, Rosa Lee Russell, Dorothy Graham and Gail Tedder.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Owens officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Ard, Rusty Ard, Matthew Ard, Charles "Boo" Johnson, T.J. Anderson and Phil Ardis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Young, Payton Kirby and Landon Poole.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
