Hilda Green, 59, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at her residence, 5286 Summerton Highway, Manning. She was born Nov. 4, 1952, in Manning, a daughter of Mabel Rhame Green and the late Robert Lee Green. She was preceded in death by one brother, Lenny Green.

At an early age, she joined Friendship AME Church where she served as finance secretary, class leader, steward, stewardess, pulpit aide president, Daughters of Sarah, director of the Local Young People Department and District Young People Department, African Methodist Episcopal Central Conference of Seventh Episcopal District.

She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.; Clarendon County Branch of the NAACP; Spring Hill Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #263; the Briggs, Pearson and DeLaine Foundation; and Summerton Rotary International.

Hilda received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Scott’s Branch High School in 1970. She furthered her education at Wilburforce University, Wilburforce, Ohio, and in 1974 earned a bachelor of arts degree in business.

She earned a masters degree in education from South Carolina State University in 1981 and in May 2012 was awarded a masters of science degree in information services from the University of West Alabama, Livingston, Ala.

She was employed with the Williamsburg County Department of Disabilities and Special Needs Board, Clarendon County School District One and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Hilda served at Sumter District 17 in the district office and as a classroom teacher. Her final employment was with Shaw Air Force Base as a civilian employee. Quietly and with confidence, Hilda inspired all of those with whom she had any contact.

Survivors are her daughter, Keshia Green; her mother, Mabel Green; one sister, Barnette G. Nelson; one brother, Carl R. Green; one aunt, Mary R. Johnson; one sister-in-law, Rose M. Green; four nieces, Rosalin (Calvin) Blair, Tamila L. Green, Erica (Terrance) Wallace and Laness Huggins; and five grandnephews.

The celebratory services for Hilda Green will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Friendship AME Church, Silver community, Summerton. She will lie in repose one hour prior to service. The Rev. Harold O. Wilson, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. James Stukes, the Revs. Ceasar R. Richburg, Nate Brock and Henry Cohen.

Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery. Wake services with Eastern Star rites will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Samuels Funeral Home, 114 N. Church St., Manning.

Family is receiving friends at her residence, 5286 Summerton Highway, Manning.
