Hines Furniture Athletes of the Year: Sumter High's Margaret McMahon and Jonathan Henry

The junior middle hitter won the team’s Best Offense Award, made the All-Region IV-5A team and was nominated for All-State. She had 201 kills on the season with a kill percentage of 40%. Her serving percentage for 96.9%, and she had 54 aces, 63 blocks and 186 digs.

I’ve been playing on varsity since eighth grade and club since sixth grade. It comes down to me being a coachable player, listening and following what the coaches teach me. The senior running back rushed for 1,341 yards and 19 touchdowns on 227 carries for the 10-1 Gamecocks. Henry averaged 117 yards rushing per game and 5.7 yards per carry. He also caught eight passes for 117 yards.

“His dependability was a strength. He did a good job for us for two years, but last year he did a great job. He was physical with the way he ran the ball, and, of course, he had great speed. He improved his ability catch the ball out of the backfield.
