For the first time in at least recent memory, Sumter will be a tour stop this summer for a current hit band.
Mandy Easton, creative pastor with Alice Drive Baptist Church, spoke Monday about popular contemporary Christian music band Big Daddy Weave coming to the Gamecock City on Saturday, July 13.
The concert is a tour stop on the band’s 30-stop tour for this year, called The Alive Tour, she said.
The band came to Sumter and Alice Drive Baptist about five years ago as part of a local, independent ministry’s effort that paid and brought the group to town for a youth ministry event.
This time, Big Daddy Weave contacted the church, Easton said.
“They actually contacted us at the church for a location to host the concert,” Easton said. “This is actually part of their tour.”
The five-member band is composed of lead singer Mike Weaver, Jay Weaver, Joe Shirk, Jeremy Redmon and Brian Beihl. The band has had more than a dozen top-10 singles on the charts in Billboard magazine since 2003, including four No. 1 hits. Its most recent top song was My Story from 2015 and its Beautiful Offerings album.
Ticket prices are $20 for general admission, $35 for an early admission ticket and $75 for premium seat tickets that will include a backstage pass to meet the band afterward, Easton said.
General admission tickets can be purchased now at the church, the Olive Tree Christian Bookstore and One Accord and also online at ticketfly.com.
The two higher-priced tickets can only be purchased through ticketfly.com.
The night of the show, doors will open for general admission at 6 p.m. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and will also feature cellist Becca Bradley and violinist Jonathan Chu.
Easton also mentioned Monday for the first time that although the band and full tour group will depart after the concert, Mike Weaver will stay overnight and lead music the next morning during Sunday contemporary services at the church at 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.
“Our band is super excited to be playing for him that morning,” Easton said. “He will lead five songs with the Alice Drive band, so that’s a big deal for us.”
Tickets are available until the concert is sold out, and many are selling quickly, she said.
If tickets are still available, they can be purchased the night of the show at the door, she said.
