SUMMERVILLE (AP) — Police in South Carolina have arrested a former high school principal accused of killing his wife.

News outlets report 64-year-old James Yarborough called Summerville police Tuesday and said he hadn't seen his wife, 63-year-old Karen Yarborough.

A police incident report says officers found James Yarborough with a red stain on his shirt. A bullet without a shell casing was found inside the home.

Karen Yarborough's body was found in unincorporated Dorchester County. Coroner Paul Brouthers says she died of an apparent homicide.

Summerville police Lt. Shaun Tumbleston says James Yarborough was charged Wednesday with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and obstruction of justice.

It's unclear whether he had an attorney who could speak for him. He spent six years as principal at Summerville High School.
