For anyone interested in taking first steps into the world of genealogy and researching their family history, the Sumter County Genealogical Society is hosting a Research Tea Party on Saturday at the Sumter County Museum, 122 N. Washington St.

Amy Vaughn with the genealogical society distributed a flyer Wednesday for the free event.

The Research Tea Party will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and will include two speakers and multiple representatives from private clubs to help people get started in their research. The event will be at the museum's Heritage Education Building, according to Vaughn.

Even though the event is free, people must call to reserve a spot because there is limited seating, she said. Vaughn can be contacted at (803) 934-6281.

No children under 12 are allowed at the tea party, and light refreshments will be served.

For additional event questions, call Vaughn.
