The Sumter Iris Festival kicks off its long-awaited 80th year tomorrow when Swan Lake Iris Gardens will transform into a haven for community and family friendly fun.
The fun begins the evening before the festival with the annual crowning of the Iris King and Queen during the Taste at the Gardens, which features food and music from local restaurants, chefs and caterers.
Its 80th year had been put on hold since 2020 because of the pandemic, and to celebrate its return, the city and local businesses are also hosting other events to coincide with the daytime outdoors festival. While the festival will feature vendors, arts and crafts, a plant and flower sale, an antique and classic car show, concerts, contests and children's activities, there will be more to do at night with themed parties and local art and theater.
With the Taste at the Gardens lasting from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, the festival will be open at Swan Lake on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
