Isabelle Mary Potter Chavey Niemann, beloved wife of 40 years to Conrad Richard Niemann and devoted mother of Christopher S. Chavey (Cathy), Andrew T. Chavey and Susan C. Harvin (Scott), passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at her residence.

She was born on June 3, 1937, in Barton Seagrave, England, a daughter of the late Wilf and Lois Potter. Isabelle traveled all over the world as an Air Force wife and served as a Red Cross volunteer for many years. While stationed in Turkey, she also taught English as a second language to Turkish students. For 20 years, she worked at Central Carolina Technical College in the business department, where she was the administrative assistant to the vice president of business affairs. In her spare time, it was her seven grandchildren that captured her heart and attention: Emily C. Harvin, Winfield Scott Harvin Jr., Blake E. Chavey, Jennifer V. Chavey, Rachel C. Chavey, Elena Chavey and Jacob Chavey.

Isabelle was also a longtime member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter, where she served on the Parish Life Committee and was a member of the Bishop Caruthers ECW Chapter.

Isabelle is also survived by two sisters, Kathleen P. Gioia (Dominic) of Torre Blanca, Spain, and Susan P. Bass (Bruce) of Rushden, England; numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews; a stepson, Richard F. Niemann (Nona) of Dallas, Texas; and two grandchildren, Arthur and Ricky.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful people of McElveen Manor and Tri-County Hospice for all of their loving care during this past year. A special thank you also goes to Trisha Hilton for her love and compassion toward Isabelle.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter.

The family will receive friends following the service at the Parish Hall and at other time at the residence of her daughter.
