Italia Tamara Timmons, 64, wife of James J. "Jeff" Timmons, died on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation.

Born on Oct. 25, 1955, in the Republic of Panama, she was a daughter of Severina Martinez Compton and the late Lorenzo Rodriguez. She was a member of Wedgefield Baptist Church. She was employed at Tuomey Hospital for 15 years and worked for the state of South Carolina as a translator. Italia served in the ministry as a translator for the migrant community at Providence Baptist Church, Pine Grove Baptist Church, Wedgefield Baptist Church and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years; her mother of Sumter; two children, Kalya Timmons Hamilton (Jason) of Horatio and John Russell Timmons (Megan) of Sumter; three granddaughters, Kaileigh Hamilton, Ashley Hamilton Parker (Caleb) and Ellie Addison Timmons; a great-granddaughter, Maci Parker; a sister, Mariella Stephenson (Daniel) of Easley; a brother, Amado Cardenas (Melba) of Panama City, Panama; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of students from her Spanish class at Clarendon Hall.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Paul Goff officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
