The journey of life for James "JC" Andrews began on Feb. 1, 1931, in Lynchburg, where he was born to the late Nathaniel and Hattie Scarborough Andrews. He answered his call from labor to reward on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019.

He attended the public schools of Lee County. He resided in Newark, New Jersey, for many years before returning home to South Carolina. For many years, he was a member of St. Matthews AME Church. His passion was carpentry, farming and being a helping hand for those in need. He demonstrated virtues of kindness, love, compassion and caring.

Family members who now celebrate the life of JC Andrews and who will forever cherish his memories include his wife, Dorothy Andrews; one son, Michael Andrews of Newark; three daughters, Valerie Evans Watts of Columbia, Brenda Evans Dubard (Gary) of Columbia and Lavonia Evans Montgomery (Wayne) of Columbia; one sister, Mary Letha Gore (David); five brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; a grandson whom he helped raise, Jamar Watts of Columbia; and nine other grandchildren.

A celebration of his victory in Jesus takes place as he joins his parents; son, Terry Dobson; and brothers, Roland Andrews, Booker T. Andrews and Reynolds Andrews, who preceded him in death.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Andrews will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, with the Rev. Emmanuel Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Solomon Cemetery, Lynchburg.
