JAMES EDWARD ALSTON
James Edward Alston, 63, was born on Nov. 18, 1956, and entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 18, 2020, at his home in Rembert.
His parents were the late Frank and Rosa Lee Lewis Alston, along with the late Willie James and Hattie Pearl Dinkins of Rembert. "Boogie," as he was affectionately known to family and friends, received his education in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Hillcrest High School Class of 1975.
He started his work career at E.I. Dupont in Camden in 1975 and retired in 2015. He helped many family, friends and others in any way he could, until his health began to fail. He was a member of the Sand Hills Community Men Club. He became a member of Union Baptist Church at an early age and rededicated his life to Christ in 2019.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a son, Brandon J. Sanders; his mother, Pastor Marie Sanders; brothers, Russell (Jeanette) Alston and the Rev. Lorenzo (Lillian) Dinkins of Rembert; sisters, Rose Marie (Leroy) Clark of Elgin, Bernice Alston of Rembert, Geraldine Alston of Washington, D.C., Priscilla (Frank) Allen, Laura Boykin, Theresa (Terry) Lee and Stephanie Dinkins, all of Rembert; one uncle, Wilbur (Tasha) Lewis; one aunt, Beulah Dixon; great-aunt, Francine Boykin; great-uncle, Willie English; stepmother, Hattie Pearl Dinkins; a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Private graveside services were held at 10 a.m. today at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 5840 Spring Hill Road, Rembert. The Rev. Walter Robertson, pastor, and the Rev. Lorenzo Dinkins, pastor of Pine Grove AME Church, officiated, eulogist.
The procession for family only left at 9:30 a.m. from the home.
