Jane Atkinson Goodson, 84, widow of Louis Fairey Goodson, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, at National Healthcare of Sumter.

Born in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Kirven Dunnie Atkinson and Annie Eliza Hopkins Atkinson. Jane was a member of Sumter First Church of God, where she faithfully served her church family as the nursery caretaker for many years. She also volunteered her time to various church committees and worked tirelessly with the Women of the Church of God. Jane retired from Bank of America as a head teller.

Surviving are her son, Donald L. Goodson (Ebbie) of Manning; her daughter, Fairey Ann Hatfield (Bryan) of Sumter; eight grandchildren, Cindy Sharp Scheele (Larry), Rea Sharp Maynard (Kevin), Alison Sharp Watford (Kevin), Bobbie Sharp Owens (Jake), Brittany Hatfield Ferrell, Bryan Hatfield III, Maggie Goodson Richardson (Townes) and Louis Hayes Goodson (Bailey); 12 great-grandchildren, Harold Turner (Katie), Caroline Turner Cromer (Justin), Sharp Turner, Rebecca Glancy, Kaitlind Glancy Ellrich (Erik), Sam Watford, Lindy Watford, Madeline Owens, Hall Owens, Morgan Ferrell, Jaxon Ferrell and Rhett Hatfield; great-great-grandchildren, Sutton Turner, Scout Turner, Easton Ellrich and Royce Ellrich; her brother, Adville Atkinson; and three sisters, Thelma Pack, Sallie Horner and Carolyn Jeffcoat.

Jane was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Goodson Sharp Hance; brothers, Woodrow Atkinson, Kirven Atkinson, Pete Atkinson, Hoyt Atkinson and Charles Atkinson; and a sister, Louise Atkinson Hoover.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at  Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with Pastor Ron Bower officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Hatfield III, Hayes Goodson, Harold Turner, Sharp Turner, Sam Watford and Townes Richardson.

The family received friends at the home of her daughter, Fairey Ann Hatfield (Bryan), 2495 U.S. 521 South, Sumter, on Sunday.

The family requests that all attendees wear face coverings and practice social distancing at the service and visits to the home.
