A graveside service for Janerette Samuel McQuiller Sr. will be held at noon on Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter. The Rev. Franklin Garrett, of Mount Moriah United Methodist, Mayesville, will officiate.

The public may view from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Palmer Memorial Chapel, Sumter.

Mr. McQuiller transitioned on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at his home in Sumter.

Born a native of Sumter County, he was a son of the late James and Sallie Brown McQuiller. In 1952, he married Annie Mae Wilson, and to this loving union 10 children were born. "Bully," as he was affectionately called, was reared in a Christian home. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and later attended Manhattan Tech in Brooklyn, New York. Janerette was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He served for many years as the second ship cook in the sea transport service, later the U.S. Public Health Hospital in New York City, and retired after 33 years of government service with 27 years with U.S. Postal Service in Brooklyn. Janerette returned home to run his uncle's store "Rabbit Brown" and joined Mount Moriah UM Church, where he served faithfully on the male choir, United Methodist Men and chair of trustee. He was also a member of American Legion Post 15 of Sumter.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Annie Mae of the home; 10 children, Ruby (Alphonso) Williams-Times, Girard (Sylvania) McQuiller, Gordon (Sharon) and Raleigh, all of Sumter, Rosanna Sanders, Janerette Jr. (Virginia), Teresa (Robert) Lennon, Emmanuel (Pamela) of Brooklyn, Arnold (Ana) of Queens, New York, and Sallie (Oualdo) Jacobs of Long Island, New York; one sister, Marie King of Brooklyn; a special niece, Frances C. Moss of Sumter; 33 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
