WEDGEFIELD - J.B. Walker, 85, husband of Susie Jeanette Tallent Walker, died on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at his home.

Born on Jan. 22, 1934, in Murphy, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Oliver and Hattie Payne Walker. He was a member of Wedgefield Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and bus driver for many years. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service and was a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran. He was employed as a guard with the Sumter County Jail, SHOCK probation officer at Wateree Correctional Institution and body shop manager at Jones Chevrolet. He was a Mason and enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years; two sons, Jimmy Walker (Pam) of Lexington and Steve Walker (Jane) of Sumter; six grandchildren, Stephanie Walker Craven, Steven Walker, Shane Walker, Wesley Walker, Lucas Walker and Sara Grace Walker; and five great-grandchildren, Dylan Walker, Hailey Grace Walker, Walker Craven, Jackson Walker and Corbyn Walker.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Wedgefield Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Goff officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Youmans and Sidney Smith.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Wedgefield Baptist Church and other times at the home.
