Retired U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Jeffrey Lynn Farber, 67, husband of Tammy Willhouse Farber, died on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at his home.

Born on Sept. 15, 1953, in Davenport, Iowa, he was a son of Jane Montgomery Maxwell and the late Clifford Farber. Mr. Farber retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Afghanistan War. He was awarded four Meritorious Service Medals, six Army Commendations Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, six Army Good Conduct Medals and numerous other awards and recognition for his dedicated service. Following his retirement, Mr. Farber served as curator of Sumter Cemetery for 10 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 15.

Survivors in addition to his wife of 43 years include a son, Eric Farber (Courtney Pritchard) of Columbia; a daughter, Jessica Baker (Dr. John Baker) of Columbia; a granddaughter, Amelia Baker; one brother, Don Farber (Dallas) of Iowa; one sister, Debbie Dassie of Texas; his beloved canine friend and companion, Reno; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Farber.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Clay Lowder officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the Sumter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
