She joined the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church family under the leadership of the late Pastor Simon McKenzie. Jessie Mae gave dedicated services under many pastors such as J.D. Prince, E. Bodrom and Pastor Larry Barnes (current). Her zeal for God allowed her to be a part of numerous ministries within the church from the early 50's up until her health began to decline such as: senior usher board, chaplain and peace maker, mass choir and senior and gospel choirs. Most recently, she served on the deaconess board, missionary board, prayer band, J.D. Prince Scholarship Fund and mother of the church.

Mother Jessie Mae leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving children, Carrie (Elehue) McFadden of New Jersey, Hattie Bell (Robert) Laws of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Johnny Lee Butler, Rosa Mae McDowell, Josephine (Richard) Lee, Lewis Sigler, Alice (James) Jackson, Martha Burgess, Joseph (Ruth) Sigler, Elizabeth (Bishop Sam) Miller, Eva Mae (Curtis) Johnson, Annie (Toni) Richardson and John Black of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 44 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; home nurse, Betty Baker; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
