Joan Lee Norton Peebles, 90, widow of John E. Peebles, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born on Dec. 5, 1928, in Berkeley, California, she was a daughter of the late Earl A. and Vera Gehring Norton. Mrs. Peebles was a military wife for 20 years. She enjoyed the many travel and friendship opportunities she had while supporting her husband's service to our country. She worked at Coker Department Store for many years and retired from Belk. Her hobbies included gardening, fishing, many different crafts and playing bridge.

Survivors include one son, John Peebles (Amy) of Clayton, North Carolina; one daughter, Deborah Walsh (Marshall) of Moore; five grandchildren, Patrick Walsh, Caitlin Ranfft (Martin), Jay Disher (Diane), Collin Peebles (Ashli) and Abby Traverson; and two great-grandchildren, Fiona Peebles and Jacob Ranfft.

She was preceded in death by three older sisters and her twin sister, Jean Herring.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
