Funeral services for Joe Davis Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, USA, 9124 Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. Alonza Washington, stated supply pastor, the Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Colclough officiating and the Rev. Dr. Larry Hill as eulogist. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

The public may view from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel.

Joe Davis Jr., affectionately known as "Chuck," transitioned on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

He was born in Sumter County to Katie Witherspoon Davis and the late Joe Davis Sr. Joe was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Sumter High School Class of 1975. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in mass communications from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1979. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Mr. Davis joined Westminster Presbyterian Church and served faithfully in the young adult ministry. Mr. Davis was previously employed with S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia and Morris College in Sumter.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rosetta Davis Burson; brother, Clint Davis; his paternal grandparents, Willie and Dorcas Anderson Davis; and maternal grandparents, Alexander Sr. and Lucille Pearson Witherspoon.

Survivors include his beloved mother, Katie W. Davis; one daughter, NeShonda L. Parr of Irmo; one grandson, Eric Jovari Burkett; one brother, Bruce (Briana) Davis of Columbia; five aunts, Lillie Mae McFadden, Sally W. Blocker and Robertha W. Leverette, all of Sumter, and Deloris Witherspoon and Sarah Witherspoon of New York; three uncles, Ezekiel Witherspoon and Robert (Lorraine) Witherspoon of New York City and Leroy Grant of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
